Capsule: During the days of the Rebellion, the Sullustans realized that the Mon Calamari were building a dominant position within the Rebel Alliance thanks to their passenger liner to warship conversions. Realizing that this was a threat to their own position and that it proved it was possible, the SoroSuub corporation began converting their own premier liner design into warships.

Although fast and heavily armed, the size of the Dauntless compared with the MC-80 designs proved a deterrent in the months following her introduction as it was more economical to convert or construct the Calamari vessels. The Dauntless did not become a very common sight, especially as the warship conversion had been something SoroSuub had not been enthusiastic to do or promote.

With a recent change in the leadership of SoroSuub however the corporations attitude changed and they began to lobby for military contracts with greater vigor. This prompted a reassessment of the Dauntless design and, given the greater resources of the New Republic over the Rebel Alliance, eventually a greater number of Dauntless cruisers entering service.
