| Background:
Cornelius Reinhardt is from a Tapani nobleman from House Melantha. He is a baron within House Melanth and has served the Empire for the past 32 years since he first started at the Academy. His family is wealthy and they have been nobility for generations, he maintains a house on Procopia and his ancestral manor on Lupani. He has controlling interests in a family arms manufacturing corporation and several commercial shipyards. He had no personal interest in running a business, he was happy to take the money and the financial well-being of such personal wealth though. Cornelius chose to join the Imperial Navy and didn't look back at his old life. He wanted to be part of something more grand than merely being part of the local nobility. He served for years in the Imperial Navy and was an admiral under Mallagant in the Minos Cluster. Though originally an admiral under Viktor Mallagant in the Minos Cluster, Cornelius defected to the Kathol Sector under Moff Sarne with several other ships of his squadron. He told Sarne the clever cover story that he became disillusioned with Mallagant after Haylon Starcrusher was promoted to Systems Admiral over him. Being a very capable flag officer, Sarne took him in without much question and gave him a Systems Admiral position. Less than a year later, Mallagant invaded Kathol and the deception came full circle. Reinhardt returned to his true commander's side with a good portion of Sarne's forces and together they subjugated the entire Kathol Sector. Ostensibly, what had happened was that Starcrusher was promoted to High Admiral and he was in control of Minos Cluster while Mallagant's forces moved into lower Kathol (which Sarne had not penetrated yet). Cornelius was promoted by Sarne to fleet admiral and ordered to strengthen upper Kathol. Mallagant then promoted Starcrusher to grand admiral to control the Minos Cluster and start the invasion of Elrood. Sarne reacted by promoting Cornelius to high admiral and made him responsible for all of Kathol. When Lord Admiral Mallagant's forces arrived, Cornelius had managed to influence the fleet so heavily that almost all of them defected en masse, exactly as called for. |
