Aventhin, Pertas

Background: Born 16B.B.Y. on Carida to middle-class parents Pertas showed interest in the Imperial Army from a young age, he, his brother Pertas and his childhood friend Litora Hengal would watch the soldiers drill for hours as children.

Growing up he showed aptitude for school, however he had little interest in pursuing his studies further still preferring a career in the military rather than the merchant trade of his family or further study, seeing this his parents quietly saved money to support him at the academy.

Pertas joined the academy on Carida at about the time of the Imperial counter-attacks on Yavin IV as an officer cadet Pertas performed well enough at all aspects of Academy life, however he was not exceptional at any of the officer specific ones and had begun to develop an interest in the special forces.

Leaving the officer program for unspecified reasons in 3 A.B.Y He re-enlisted as a trooper and underwent basic training completing training just before the battle of Endor, then disaster struck, the Emperor and Darth Vader along with a significant portion of the imperial fleet were killed and the empire was on the verge of a total collapse. However those in command at the Academy were still carrying on as normal and in 3.5 A.B.Y Pertas was sent as part of a storm trooper detachment to the Imperial outpost on Tralus under General Weir where he trained as a Storm Commando eventually participating in the attack on Coronet city, which would lead to the downfall of General Weir in 4 A.B.Y.

This led to Pertas becoming part of Grand Admiral Pitta’s forces in the Corellia sector, until Pitta’s death in battle against Grand Admiral Grunger in 6.A B.Y.

After 6 A. B. Y Little is known of Pertas as he disappears from the record, he may have gone to Coruscant to Support Ysanne Isard as he re-appears in the Bacta-War and took part in the defence of Isard’s palace in 7.5 A.B.Y allowing her to escape a move many would later regret. After this encounter Pertas again slips away from all trackers.

He seems to have worked a number of jobs for the next 2 years working as an enforcer for various criminal syndicates and as a bounty-hunter this is a period he often refuses to discuss along with his decision to follow Isard to Thyferra.

Pertas finally surfaces again in 10. A.B.Y where he was re-united with his brother Diadochus and his childhood friend Litora Hengal and they moved to Eriadu to join an Imperial resistance cell after they heard of a new Warlord who aimed to re-unify the galaxy-Viktor Mallagant, however things in the cell were not as unified as Mallagant’s plan for the galaxy after a number of raids on New Republic military instillations began to go wrong. After doing some research into these failures Pertas found that Everytime the NR re-enforcements were lead by a suave Colonel named Karnovan who was well connected in post-Imperial Eriaduan life, his brother was the planet’s Governor Pertas smelt a rat and began to work out who it was and as the old guard began to drop away over the coming months his suspicions were heightened and he began to believe that either Diadochus or Litora were behind it and so devised a pair of raids to test their loyalty not telling each about the others raid and keeping completely separate raiders for these missions.

During his raid with Diadochus things were going well too well it seemed to Pertas as there were very few New Republic defenders for this very important target, So pertas prepared to shoot his own brother for the security of the Empire, however just as he was about to shoot Diadochus in the back while he picked up a crate of weapons stolen in the raid, he received a hurried communication from the leader of the cell “… Pertas… <static> … we have come under heavy … < static> attack…<static> back here now! … (sound of blaster fire closing in) … oh shit lock that blast door and lets hope they get back here in time” “ Dammit” Pertas called out “ allright troops, base has come under heavy attack, make this quick and lets get back there as soon as possible”

Pertas, Diadochus and the other Imperial Guerilla’s were making good time back to their supposedly hidden mountain base when the stench of burnt flesh first filled their nostrils, and as they crested the final hill towards their base they saw a horrible sight, a whole company of New Republic troops bearing the insignia of the Colonel Karnovan supported by a tank and a few assorted armoured vehicles, taking on the score or so Loyalist defenders of the base who were left standing. Three of the speeders under Pertas’ nominal command took of down the hill to support the base against his advice, the NR soldiers opened fire on them with deadly effect one speeder being completely destroyed by the impact of a NR Missile and another losing its driver to a lucky blaster shot causing it to crash into the only remaining speeder causing them to careen into a large bolder in the valley. Seeing the remaining Imperial irregulars on the brow of the hill Colonel Karnovan ordered the NR vehicles to turn around and fire on the newcomers. Seeing the helplessness of the situation for the imperial cell, the Aventhin brothers looked at each other and nodded, a final suicidal charge would have to be under taken as the remaining imperials on the hill and down at the old homestead that served as their headquarters began to counter attack the New Republic forces hoping to catch them of guard. Charging down the hill Pertas made out the figure of Colonel Karnovan and made directly for him locating his large hunting knife worn on his left leg, Karnovan would suffer for the lives of all the good loyal people he and his mole had brought death unto. Then a Plex rocket exploded near him and he was thrown into a rather large and pointed rock, he began to slip in and out of consciousness fading back in to see Diadochus race to his fallen form to try and carry him to safety only to be hit in the chest by a blaster which it seemed came directly from the Colonel, and again to see his men being led away to interrogation, then he passed out for an extended length of time.

He woke a day later and stumbled around the burnt out camp, strangely enough the bodies were left un-burnt and Pertas could make out exactly which body belonged to whom, at first there were many missing then he realised he had seen the Colonel and his men lead some of his comrades away towards Eridau city. Pertas stumbled around the camp one last time counting the bodies and identifying all of the old guard amongst the remnants of their equipment, they had fallen to a man except for Litora, and the first of them, their leader Delak Tavirac who had held on wounded for this time an extraordinary feat who coughed a great stream of blackened blood when Pertas drew close, “Pertas” Delak coughed once more “ Litora has betrayed us, you know what must be done” Pertas merely nodded, before turning away “ Ahhh, Pertas, one more thing please, the New Republic will be back soon would you be so kind as to end my existence” As Delak had revived Pertas’ faith in the Glory of the Empire Pertas did hesitate for a moment before raising his blaster rifle and leaving a deep carbon burn right between Delak’s Eyes.

Pertas then turned away and headed toward Eriadu city, he walked up the hill towards the speeders, which had oddly enough been left in a working condition as if Karnovan knew Pertas was till alive and wanted him to try find him. As he headed from the ruins of the base towards the crest of the hill he came across the wide-eyed corpse of his brother Diadochus, Pertas closed his eyes and mouth and swore by the deaths of all his comrades that Litora and Colonel Karnovan would suffer and die slowly.

Pertas made the long journey to Eriadu city quickly putting his speeder to the limit stopping only once to rest. Once he had arrived at Eriadu city he drove down to the seediest district he could find and sunk himself into the dodgiest looking Cantina he could find and began to ask about the Colonel and Litora, he was about to move taverns when a disgruntled gardener entered the cantina muttering curses about some well connected colonel and his new tart. Pertas shrewdly bought the man a drink and deep in his cups he revealed that this colonel was the brother of the Governor and had a mansion close to the Palace on the banks of the Orrinesaw river. Pertas dragged the man into the alley beside the cantina and pulled his knife on him, pressing him for information on guards, turrets, walls etc. The man was most helpful once he saw the knife and let slip that there was an old jetty at the bottom of the property that was badly patrolled only once every three hours.

Pertas spent weeks mapping out the patrol routes around the property and the patterns of everybody on it. He spied Colonel Karnovan and Litora many times and each time he nearly blew his cover and took a shot at them, but he managed to keep his cool with greater and greater difficulty. The night came that the patrols would be at half strength and Karnovan would be out for the evening, this would leave Litora alone and lightly guarded. This was his moment, he sauntered down to the nearest cantina and hired a couple of thugs to help him, to make it look like a burglary is what he told them. They returned to the river and swam across at a nearby ford. Pertas led the thugs up the old jetty and across the grounds stopping only to kill one guard who nearly stumbled across them. Once they reached the house Pertas said “ you too are free to loot the place as you wish, but warn me if Karnovan returns and the Woman is MINE, you are not to touch her” the Thugs walked off to the vault making as much noise as possible aiming to draw Litora downstairs. Litora took the bait and descended the stairs a grave mistake as Pertas was waiting at the base of the stairs, as she headed towards the vault blaster pistol grasped in hand she never saw Pertas, he swung his blaster rifle at it connected with the back of her head, she crumpled, and he tied her up and dragged her upstairs.

He waited for her to regain consciousness he thought about what to say… but nothing came he was only filled with blinding hatred. Litora gained consciousness and gasped… “Pertas, you’re supposed to be dead… this can’t be I’m so glad to see y..”

“Silence, whore… after what you did your not fit to speak, not only did you betray us to the New Republic, you caused my Brothers death, tried to kill me and you’re sleeping with the enemy, and for that you will only live long enough to bring Karnovan to me.” Pertas then proceeded to beat her yelling curses, when he heard gunshots downstairs and one of his thugs came running up stairs bleeding from his arm, hey, hey boss, Karnovan’s here with his guards and they got they other g..” his final word cut short as Pertas’ knife entered his stomach, “Idiot” Pertas raved, “ you two were supposed to smash and grab” then he shot him in the chest, “ Wait here” he snarled at Litora, “ Its not like I have much choice now is it Pertas” then the wet crunch of her cheekbones as he smashed his blaster rifle into her face. Pertas then raced down the stairs and took up a position in the kitchen to wait for Karnovan and his guards, taking out his grenades he prepared to hold off their Assault. As the Guards approached the kitchen karnovan took of upstairs to look for his lover, however Pertas had a surprise in store for him he had rigged a small mine at the top of the stairs and Karnovan had run straight into it next to the body of the thug it was well hidden. Pertas unleashed a volley of grenades at the be-wildered guards he stood up and finished of the wounded guardsmen and headed up stairs where he found Karnovan writhing at the top, missing half a limb, he dragged him in to the bedroom where Litora was, “ Litora you caused me a lot of trouble and for that you’ll watch you lover die and then you too will die.” Pertas shot Karnovan in the head, Litora screamed and Pertas looked over at her, walked up to her and smiled. This is for what you did to the old days then slit her throat. Pertas walked down the stairs and walked out of the house and straight into the path of Mallagant’s Invasion of Eriadu, Pertas headed down to what was by now his favourite cantina and waited for things to cool of before presenting himself to Mallagant for SpecOps duty.

Personality: Once Pertas was a courteous, kind and caring young man however after years of loss and betrayal very little of this side of him remains, he is now filled with a lust for vengeance and seems content only when actively fulfilling this goal. He is still capable of acts of compassion however he would rather leave a wounded companion to their fate rather than jeopardise the mission he was on.

Objectives: To gain vengeance against the NR for the lives of his family and friends.
