It was long thought to be impenetrable, until the Empire discovered safe hyperlanes into the region.The five worlds of the Corellia system and their neighboring Outliers have always viewed themselves as almost an independent state.The Expansion Region is rich in raw materials, which led to its exploitation by corporate interests pushing the bounderies of colonization. It is also an important strategic area because it forms a staging area on the way to the outer territories.The Rimma Trade Route runs from the outer Core worlds to the furtherst reaches of the Outer Rim.
